From vision to Vancouver Fashion Week, NICHE magazine’s sponsored Emerging Designer Alex S. Yu showcased his S/S 2015 collection – closing the show on Wednesday evening. With much anticipation and buzz following Alex for the past few months, it has been a whirlwind bringing the sketches and imagination to what graced the runway in the cohesive 16 looks. NICHE magazine’s Editor in Chief, Tracey Drake and  Fashion Editor, Sara Rose worked alongside Alex on his collection helping bring his inspiration of travels and DSC_0088experiences in London and Paris as well as his fascination with Dr. Seuss to the spotlight. What started as DSC_0519photographs of walls full of graffiti in poverty-stricken parts of the cities that spoke to him quickly evolved into prints which were incorporated into the looks.

Shining brighter than ever, you can catch Alex’s inspiration through the graffiti and lost youth inspired prints on his shirts to the iridescent materials which bring a whimsical aspect of youth and childhood. Vancouver raised and student from London College of Fashion in the UK, Alex takes on a structural esthetic with playful attributes. Heavy materials manipulated into an optimistic happy mood with a childish essence that possibly brings out the perfect DSC_0578amount of little girl in all of us. Asymmetrical hemmed crop tops, full skater skirts, metallic paired with solids and the juxtaposing of weighted materials, brought this finale collection in a full force fashion forward.

Complementing bouffant silhouettes and sleek ponytails were jelly sandals paired with cheerful socks. Accessorizing head-to-toe, Alex constructed shimmering bucket hats, clutches as well DSC_0158as alluring backpacks. Ultimate attitude from not only the models, but the clothes themselves, Alex’s s/s 2015 collection took the attention of all eyes in the audience as the clothes seemed to float down the runway accompanied to dreamy music with a hypnotizing beat.

We are so proud to have sponsored such an incredibly talented and creative designer and cannot hence enough how important Emerging Designers are for the future of fashion.

Special thanks to: Key MAKEUP Artist- Jerry Kuo and team (Mimi Choi, Jane Lu, Sally Chiang, Sandy Wai, Vicky Lo, Charleene Towe). The HAIR team – Avant Garde Salon(Aubrey Bonnah, Bailey Murphy and Stacey Pascale).
