White Magic: RENATA BUZZO S/S 2015 AT VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK

Brazilian designer Renata Buzzo’s Spring/Summer 2015 presentation took flight Friday night under the main tent at Vancouver Fashion Week. The all-white collection of dresses titled “GOOSE GIRL” was an ethereal celebration of the feminine, and one that brought the crowd to applause several times.

Our first hint at the theme of geese was an origami wing handed out to attendees pre-show, and the telltale folds were echoed throughout the presentation. Within the wing was a poem, telling the story of a girl who turned into a goose, only to understand that “they were all once human, like her.” Buzzo is a proud vegan, passionate animal lover, and markets her line as eco-friendly.

The elegance of this show had everyone excited. Her dresses floated on the models, all of whom had upswept chignons with hidden braids and exaggerated dark eyes. She turned her fondness for geese into a creative narrative, and the regal necklines and variations of texture illustrated her concept clearly. Lace appliqués, subtle sparkle, soft fringe, and playful sheerness were consistent details on the runway and highlighted Buzzo’s technical ability. Inspired by vintage silhouettes and moulage draping, she names fashion icons Coco Chanel and Madeleine Vionnet as influential figures, and described this collection to me as “low-profile, non-pretentious, and natural.” Renata Buzzo will most certainly be one to watch.
