Christopher Bailey, creative director to Burberry, has helped the label grow significantly since starting there some 10 years ago.
For Burberry’s Resort 2015 show, Bailey took his inspiration from two things truly British, its 
weather and literature. He used these on pieces in the collection, from shrunken cashmere sweaters, to bowling bags and even the classic British trench coats.
With these quirky sayings splayed across the line, there was an appeal for a wide age group. These fun pieces will definitely appeal to the younger Burberry followers and favourites of the designer, like Suki Waterhouse and Cara Delevigne.
The entire collection had a simplicity to it, a true ready to wear collection. This unfussy approach, even seen in the eveningwear, is something that the house of Burberry is known for.
All pieces were quintessential British cool, with added details to make each piece unique. The lace was made in Nottingham, a nod to how important it is to keep production close by for Bailey. The dresses and skirts were all cut at a practical length, below the knee, making them appropriate for many occasions. The jackets and trenches are perfect transitional pieces from season to season and could be thrown on for any number of occasions. The classic trench coat was even reimagined in ombre, perhaps even a little too chic for a rainy day.
Although the collection seems to be ethereal and romantic mostly, there was a sense of practicality with some of the pieces too, perhaps if paired with something else. There was a nod to military and safari style, through the large pockets found on some of the trenches, skirts and even tops. As well, the colour palette went from dip-dyed to earthy, reminiscent of military wear.
Overall the silhouettes of the collection had a vintage feel, mixed with modernity through the colour palette. By including sayings about the British cliché of its weather, Bailey designed a collection that had a distinctive story. The British weather being very similar to Victoria and Vancouver’s, it could very easily be worn across the pond.
