Karl Lagerfeld Changed the Fashion Landscape with Chanel Fall 2010 Faux Collection

“Technical advances are so perfect you can hardly tell fake fur from the real thing. Fake is not chic — but fake fur is.”

This is a quote from Karl Lagerfeld, interviewed backstage after the now infamous Chanel Fall/Winter 2010 runway show… a monumental event that included a 265-ton iceberg, imported from Sweden, in the middle of the Grand Palais in Paris.

KL has a reputation for an excessive use of fur in his Fendi days, so this change of heart could possibly be an indication of where the world is going on the ‘fur versus faux’ debate.

Modern faux furs, thanks to advanced technology, are stunningly beautiful.

NICHE magazine is the first to admit that fashion is not always kind, and specifically in our Fashion Forward column, we will report – from a journalistic point only – what is coming off the runway in any given season. Sometimes, as in the Fall 2012/Winter 2013 season, that will include leather.

However, I am proud to say that NICHE magazine includes an Ethical Fashion column. Each issue will focus on a designer or fashion look that is making a difference in regards to ethical and eco fashion.
