Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli took their audience on a journey of Opera’s romanticism this spring Couture season. With inevitable influence from Roman Opera houses, the Valentino design duo showcased the collection on a runway created by set designer, Maurizio Varamo of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.
The first look, a white tulle dress with musical notes embroidered on the skirt looked as if it were the opening pages of music for the orchestra. From elaborately detailed garments, ballerina tulle dresses, simplistic statuesque silouettes and wildlife prints on satin, Chiuri and Piccioli sent their pieces of art one-by-one along the painted flooring. Attire inspired by La Bohème, La Traviata and Bizet’s Carmen were created in luxurious silk, intricate lacework, innovative use of animal prints, layers of tulle and classic feminine silhouettes. An essence of Garden of Eden influence transcended into nature and wildlife prints of tigers, florals, trees, peacocks and snakes.
Incredible construction techniques by artisans were demonstrated on a brilliant butterfly coat. The historic Valentino classicism mixed with whimsical prints and Opera influence demonstrated that Valentino continues to present jaw-dropping creations that will receive a standing ovation when the red curtains are drawn closed.
