It was a Cuban celebration in Manhattan yesterday for Stella McCartney’s Resort 2016 showing. The collection showing took place in the form of a garden party with live salsa dancers and music, costumed characters on tall stilts, chocolate cigars, beer and of course rum cocktails. It has been said no one hosts a New York summer garden party quite like Stella, no wonder the event was packed with a-list celebrities at the Elizabeth Street studio space.
The collection contrasted McCartney’s two main aesthetics, feminine and sporty chic. Men’s tailoring was shown with knotted waist ties to enhance the leisure element. Vibrant colours of Cuba appeared with maxi dresses of weightless fabrics and floral motifs highlighted the romantic essence of summer. Wild horse prints were shown on structured menswear inspired bomber jackets and them hems of floor length gowns. To top off the looks, McCartney played up the fun with pop-art inspired musical note earrings and accessories.
