On Monday, May 5, 2014, Hollywood’s hottest arrived at The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual gala fundraiser in New York embracing old-school glam. This year’s benefit event for the Museum’s Costume Institute sharply contrasted last year’s edgy punk fashion statements. Timeless, stunning black and white gowns flooded the red carpet this year, accompanied by men in white ties and one of this year’s beauty trends, bright, bold lips.

Power couple Jay-Z and Beyonce dressed to impress in monochromatic black and white. Jay-Z’s white suit and black tie drew all of the attention to Beyonce’s paired sheer Givenchy Haute Couture dress with matching Givenchy veil. Also taking the red carpet by storm was couple David and Victoria Beckham, who paired perfectly in white. Both Beckhams opted for simple, elegantly formed pieces – Victoria’s gown was even designed by herself!

Sporting a divergent take on this year’s black and white affair, Cara Delevingne wowed in a fitted, cut-out crop top and white pants with zipper detailing from Stella McCartney. Delevingne met up with Rihanna on the red carpet, which similarly rocked a Stella McCartney gown in white. Rihanna has been known to wear bold black pieces to the Met Ball for consecutive years prior, but instead opted for a long sleeve statement crop-top with beaded neckline, boxed shoulders, and a complimenting, flowing skirt.

And of course, we can’t look past fashion icon Sarah Jessica Parker’s Oscar de la Renta signed show-stopping gown. Parker, a Met Ball icon, created a bold twist to her floor-length black and white gown by incorporating elbow-length satin gloves and scarlet detailing of De la Renta’s signature. The signature addition was Parker’s own idea, to highlight De la Renta’s work.
