NICHE Fashion Editor Visits NYC with Clarins & Burberry

SHARE

If you watch any of our NICHE families social media (if you don’t, you should probably go ahead and get on that now), I’m sure you’re well aware I took off to NYC, for a little Sara and the City time. And for a matter of fact, at this point, I don’t want to return (sorry MOM).

Lets just say I’ve covered ground.

Beginning my stay in The New York Palace, it was the most fabulous way to arrive in style. This hotel, or shall I say PALACE has the entrance that could leave some speechless. You may recognize it’s exterior and interior decor, as it’s made use of for many famous films and television series, such as; Oprah’s Next Chapter, 27 Dresses, 30 Rock, Lipstick Jungle, Will and Grace and of course xoxo GOSSIP GIRL. After picking your jaw up off the floor, I highly recommend hunkering into your room’s robe and slippers (which are provided), and taking in your view. Each room is overseeing something spectacular in the city, so enjoy every NEW YORK minute of it.

All while enjoying my own NY minutes, you know me, and this girl just can’t sit still. I had to get out and pound the pavement, work is pleasure for me. So, while in town I had the privilege of visiting the head office of BURBERRY. And what a memorable experience it was. Spending the morning being introduced to different products of fashion – perfume – beauty, brand history and one to many smiling/passionate faces that started with the iconic TRENCH and now, along with Christopher Bailey CCO & CEO, the BURBERRY family is making meticulous moves in holding its prestigious title in the wide world of fashion.

Leading from Fashion Houses to the pavement, I took off on – some adventures. If you’ve never physically been to MANHATTAN (real talk; we all lived there mentally while Sex and the City aired), well firstly I’m sorry, add it to the list! This city is set up like grid work, literally, Avenues run from Jersey side to Brooklyn side, while Streets run Central Park to Financial District (ish). I walked from East to West and North to South, ain’t no river to high or valley to LOW, this girl is on the go. (I like to pretend I’m a professional lyricist sometimes) Don’t stop to smell the roses, don’t stop to speak to the friendly man smiling at you on the corner, as the flowers have probably been peed on and the man probably wants your money…seriously though. This city is continuously hustling so if you want to partake, you better keep up to their pace. I recall standing on the street side solo once, this is now up to you, whether you want to share in this experience or not. As a New Yorker (yes I’d like to self title myself that now, it has a good ring), car horns are their friends and taking a run for the empty space in traffic is an average day of activity (more like enjoyable adrenaline for me). Every inch of this city serves as a different smell, taste, energy and general feeling that will tantalize your senses. So, take it in, in the right way.

I took it all in this time and have some recommendations for anyone out there ready to keep in or step off the beaten path.

FOOD

The Modern – Delectable morsels of well thought out delights.  I recommend two or more, once you start you just can’t stop!

The Organic Grill – Refreshing and rejuvenating with that healthy touch away from home.

The Standard Highline Grill – I can’t go to NYC and not go here. The food and cocktail combinations are fantastic, with a phenomenal atmosphere for your city needs.

Artichoke Pizza – I just couldn’t not stop through and try a slice. After multiple recommendations to try a slice, I can now say I know why. LARGE and IN CHARGE with no fear of dairy.

Patsy’s Pizzeria – A traditional tit bit of Italian New Yorkers. Pasta and pizza, true to every bite.

Bathtub Gin – Another fav in NYC. Sneak through a coffee shop to this hidden gem. Fantastic cocktails, a vivacious crowd and cool interior. Cocktail connoisseur heaven.

SHOPPING

Everywhere you turn basically. Whether you’re looking for a high end boutique, a recognizable name brand or some cheap but cheerful apparel or consignment, just turn around as every street usually covers all bases. BUT Broadway is known for slangers (dealers of knock off name brands), Fifth Ave and Madison are recognizable for a combination of things, all while being packed daily with tourists/business people and the general public.

Recognizing the grid system of Manhattans city planning, and walking along Fifth Ave, is a great starting point for all of this. From this street, besides the unbelievable amounts of shopping, you’ll cross many of your tourist stops off the list. The Empire State Building, The New York Library, The MOMA, Trump Towers, The Rockefeller/NBC/Radio City Music Hall, Central Park and The Guggenheim Museum. I did not attempt this all in one day, but go ahead and get aggressive, as it’s apart of being a New Yorker.

My favourite part of becoming a self titled New Yorker, was letting myself feel at home. Between tourist stops, there was tons of aimless wandering and multiple musicians to stop and listen too.

NEW YORK did me well, covering many causes that were in need of assistance in my life. Take this city in as you may, but after one visit I think you will be feeling the same way.

– I LOVE NYC –
